Nativity |
This crib is assembled by young people of the village of Traso, using almost exclusively slate to build the houses. This choice is justified by the fact that slate is a very common stone in this area. In Fontanabuona valley, a larger valley close to the Bisagno valley where Traso is located, it is found a particularly precious variety of slate, sold all over the world for many usages, but mostly to build billiard tables. In old times, slate was used to make not only roofs, but also the coverings of house walls, in Genoa as well as in a large part of the region. |

The piper |
The architectural style of the houses in this crib is quite peculiar, because the house walls are assembled by small chips of slates, with very nice results. The crib is arranged along a circolar pathway, starting with the hut of the Nativity and developing with several pictures of rural and mountain life, full of interesting and careful details. |
