Shanghai is the largest Chinese city. The name means "by the sea" and the central part of the city is divided into two areas: Pudong (east of the Huangpu River) and Puxi (west of the Huangpu River), where the major touristic attractions are located. The main road (Zhongshan lu) is known as the Bund and runs along the Huangpu river with its huge buildings in first half of XX century style. The Bund is connected with Pudong by a tunnel below the sea, with touristic cars. West of the Bund, there is Shanghai's main shopping street, Nanjing dong Lu: it is several kilometers long and full of shops, department stores, restaurants, hotels and movie theaters. |
