Taj Mahal

Questo mausoleo famoso in tutto il mondo fu costruito dall'imperatore Shah Jahan per ospitare la tomba dell'amatissima moglie Mumtaz Mahal (o "la Prescelta del palazzo" come la ribattezzò il marito il giorno della nozze), morta nel 1631 dando alla luce il 14o figlio. Ma per Shah Jahan questo monumento era anche il sibolo più alto del suo potere e della magnificenza della sue costruzioni.

Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal is one of the most famous constructions in the word and it was built by emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his wife Mumtaz Mahal ( meaning the Chosen One of the Palace, as Shah Jahan renamed her on the day of their wedding), who died in 1631 while giving birth to her 14th child. But for Shah Jahan the Taj Mahal was much more than a poignant symbol of his love for Mumtaz : it was the culmination of his imperial and architectural grandeur.
